The Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays have always been at each other's throats. That rivalry culminated on Thursday after Manager Aaron Boone's outburst was caught on live TV.

The former professional baseball infielder now a manager for the New York Yankees burst after a called strike call on D.J. LeMahieu. Rookie umpire Brennan Miller already riled up the team before the play, and Boone was livid.

The 46-year-old manager was heard shouting at the umpire and telling him about a terrible start. Deciding that he's had enough, Miller issued the first ejection of his very brief major league career.

But Boone was having none of that, the manager then emerged from the dugout and proceeded to berate Miller and then roared into his face. Most of it was expletives, and he told the rookie umpire that his performance "had fallen short."

Before leaving the field, the manager said: "tighten it up right now." Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner praised Boone's actions from the dugout. Domingo German, the team's starting pitcher, stated that it gave him a "boost to concentrate" and do his job to get a win.

German rallied from an early 2-0 deficit and cast six stout innings in a 6-2 victory. Just before Boone's ejection, the Yankees had overcome two home runs yielded by German (12-2). For the rest of the game, the team overpowered the Rays.

They had a 5-2 lead in the fifth inning on run-scoring hits by Urshela, Gary Sanchez and Luke Voit. Voit has been on a slump since returning from an injury last week.

After the game, Boone said that he was obliged to speak up because the calls weren't going to the Yankees. He added that he didn't want other coaches and players thrown out for speaking up.

Asked if Boone's actions went too far with Miller, Gerry Davis, the umpiring crew chief, said that "he did." He added that "you're not allowed to argue balls and strikes," quipped the chief umpire.

In their second game, the Yankees beat the Rays, 5-1, this time without any ejections. Both teams have had their fair share of tension. Earlier this season, CC Sabathia incidentally threw at Rays catcher Jesus Sucre that resulted in his five-game suspension.

He was also involved in a bench-clearing altercation with Rays outfielder Avisail Garcia because of a misunderstanding. Sabathia said that "It's two good teams battling for the division... there's no love lost."
