The New York Yankees might need some help in the rotation with the news that Luis Severino seems to have suffered a setback with his rotator cuff injury. The right-hander is now set to get an MRI, possibly leaving the Yankees without their ace for even longer than they thought.

New York signed Gio Gonzalez to a minor-league contract right before the year began as some insurance, but the veteran probably is done being a front of the rotation starter. However, there is a pitcher available that has the potential to come close to giving the Yankees the production they would get from Severino.

Dallas Keuchel remains a free agent nearly two weeks into the 2019 MLB season. He was unable to land the six or seven-year contract worth between $25 million and $30 million per season that he was reportedly looking for in the offseason. It certainly wouldn't cost the Yankees that kind of money to land the left-hander at this point, and it has to be asked whether or not New York would open their checkbooks to sign the former Cy Young winner.

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal has reported that Keuchel could be looking for either a big one-year contract or a lengthy deal at a lower yearly salary. Would New York be willing to give the pitcher either kind of deal?

It certainly doesn't sound like the Yankees have much interest in Keuchel at the moment. Maybe that would change if Severino's injury is revealed to be more serious than the club initially thought, though it doesn't sound like Yankees fans should be holding their breath when it comes to the best free agent starter on the market.

New York has started the season at 5-5. The starting pitching has performed well, ranking fourth in the AL with a 2.91 ERA. Domingo German has been a fantastic replacement in two starts.

Fancred's Jon Heyman reported in the offseason that Keuchel might prefer to sign with a big market team like the Yankees. New York seemingly never showed much interest in Keuchel after they traded for starter James Paxton early in the offseason.

A bunch of teams have been linked to Keuchel, though it's unknown exactly how much interest they have in the veteran. The New York Mets, Milwaukee Brewers and the San Diego Padres have reportedly all at least kept in contact with Keuchel.
