Fifteen people, including a three-year-old boy, reported missing in Vietnam after a tour boat capsized on Friday evening during a child’s birthday party, an official told local media.

More than 100 police including swimmers reached the Saigon River in Vietnam to recover the victim, Trieu Van Giau, head of the local water police told the media. Eleven passengers, including two Chinese passengers managed to swim to safety, he added.

“We have not found any bodies yet, search and rescue operation is still going on,” Trieu Van Giau said.

The accident took place in Binh Duong province, close to the southern metropolis of Ho Chi Minh City, the former Saigon.

About 26 people were on board to celebrate the birthday party, Giau said.

A Vietnamese businessman was throwing the birthday party managed to survive, but the other family members including his wife and two children were still missing, a state-run media reported.

Strong winds and heavy rains on Friday might have caused the two-level wooden boat to capsize, authorities said.

In February, 11 tourists from nine countries, along with their Vietnamese tour guide, got drowned when the overnight boat sank in northern Ha Long Bay in Vietnam.
