A 15-year-old boy in South Carolina allegedly stabbed two people who had officially adopted him just a week before. The adoptive mother succumbed to her injuries, but her husband survived, officials said.

The stabbing incident took place Monday night at an Elgin address. Deputies with the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call at around 4:44 p.m. and arrived to find the two stabbing victims, according to WLTX.

While Angelymar Morrison, 41, died, her husband was found with multiple knife wounds and received medical attention at the hospital.

The teenage suspect fled the scene after stabbing the couple. Deputies said the boy was driving a vehicle that eventually crashed the car on Elginwood Drive.

The boy ditched the car and soon sent law enforcement officials on a manhunt, WPDE ABC15 reported.

Based on a description released by the officials, the 15-year-old white male was last seen wearing blue jeans, black shoes, and a multi-colored hoodie. Residents were urged to stay indoors because the teenager was believed to be armed with a knife.

Deputies from the Kershaw County Sheriff's Department, Elgin police officers, SCHP (South Carolina Highway Patrol), K9, and drone teams were part of the search for the boy, who was eventually found hiding under a home about a mile away from the crashed car.

The teenager was arrested shortly before 6 p.m. and charged with murder, attempted murder, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Officials said the boy had been living with the couple since December 2021, and was enrolled as a student in Kershaw County School District a month later in January last year. He has since been disciplined multiple times for non-violent and rebellious behavior, sources said.

The teenager stabbed the couple just a week after they had finalized court papers for his adoption.

"We have no reason to believe the public is in danger now that the only suspect is in custody. Thankfully, with the team effort of multiple law enforcement agencies, we were able to get this suspect in custody before anyone else was hurt," Sheriff Lee Boan said following the incident.
