Two bodies were found stuffed in barrels in a South Carolina lake Thursday, and authorities believe they are the bodies of two people who have been missing for a month.

The first body to be found in Lake Hartwell was that of a woman. The plastic barrel with her remains inside was found on the shore Wednesday, officials revealed.

Then a metal barrel with a man’s body was found about a quarter-mile away, WSPA-TV reported.

Investigators think the male body is someone who has been missing for a month, but they’re waiting for the autopsy to confirm his identity and cause of death.

Though the woman’s identity has been confirmed, her name is not being released because her family has yet to be notified. WSPA reported that the woman was white and that she hasn’t been seen for more than 30 days, according to reports.

Arrests involving the murders have yet to have been made, but that hasn't stopped those who turn to social media from speculating about the case.

@kaitlinmeb wrote that she thinks it might be the work of a serial killer, and reference Michael C Hall’s killer character from “Dexter:”

“DUDE THERE IS A SERIAL KILLER IN THE UPSTATE. Two bodiesin barrels have been found in lake hartwell #reallifedexter #ahhhh,” she said.

@CaseeMuree was freaked out by the news she heard:

“So, the fact that they found bodies, in barrels, in Lake Hartwell, near the I-85 bridge... has me FLIPPING OUT!” she wrote.

@StayingWithDemi also felt uneasy about the discovery:

“Ewww, 2 dead bodies were found in barrels in my lake. What the freak, someone take me to another state please.”
