German Billionaire Adolf Merckle commits suicide, after being hit by a train, on Monday.

His family stated that he had lost a lot of money in a short squeeze on Volkswagen stock, but had reportedly obtained a bridge loan to shore up his investment company.

Adolf Merckle, 74, killed himself in Ulm, Germany on Tuesday by standing in front of a commuter train.

According to Forbes Magazine, $9 billion Merckle was the world's 94th-richest person in 2008. He was the head of a business conglomerate which included a large investment in the German automaker Volkswagen.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth and a father of four children despite of his wealth and prominence in corporate Germany.
