A suicide bomber has killed at least 16 people and wounded 30 -- including NATO troops -- in the border region of Khost, Afghanistan.

The attack happened at a security checkpoint near a mosque in a crowded part of the city on Wednesday, witnesses said.

NATO has yet to confirm if its troops were among the dead or injured.
