“Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 2 might be welcoming another “Avengers” actor. The series has previously hosted Agent Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) as well as Lady Sif (Jaimie Alexander) from “Thor” and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) from “Captain America: The First Avenger.” So when are we going to see an actual Avenger on “Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.”? It might be sooner than you think.

Clark Gregg recently posted a picture on Facebook of Hawkeye and Coulson. While it was just an illustration from the Marvel comics -- Gregg didn’t post any text with it -- the image makes us feel like this is a foreshadowing rather than Gregg just being a fanboy.

Meanwhile, fans are waiting for “Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.” to tie-in with “Avengers: Age Of Ultron.” During promotion for the midseason finale, it was revealed that there would be a connection. “You should expect something,” executive producer Jed Whedon told Entertainment Weekly. “'The Avengers' is the big tent that all the franchises play under. Obviously, we’re included in that.”

As a project in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there is always potential for an Avenger to guest star. However, Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), a.k.a. Clint Barton, does have slightly more reason to come on the show than the other Avengers. For one, he and Black Widow (Scarlet Johansson) were actually S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, but after “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” it isn’t clear if they still associate themselves with the organization. It is also unknown if the organization still exists. If Hawkeye is aware that S.H.I.E.L.D. still exists, fans have to wonder if he knows that Coulson is alive. The S.H.I.E.L.D. director didn’t really want anyone to know about his return last season.

Hawkeye’s reasons to visit S.H.I.E.L.D. aren’t just business related. He has an ex-wife there too. Bobbi (Adrianne Palicki), a.k.a Mockingbird, joined Coulson’s team earlier this year. She has to work with her ex-husband Hunter (Nick Blood) at the moment, and it seems like they might be reconciling. If Hawkeye stepped in, he might make Hunter more than a little jealous, especially if he and Bobbi haven’t gotten married yet. Audiences aren’t quite sure if the TV show is following the comics, and viewers don’t know a lot about Mockingbird yet. She could be divorced from Hawkeye already, or their romance might just be starting.

Hawkeye is one of the least-explored characters in “The Avengers.” Similarly, Maria Hill only had a few scenes in “The Avengers,” but “Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.” gave her quite a bit of screen time during her guest spots. Even “Avengers” director and “S.H.I.E.L.D.” executive producer Joss Whedon acknowledged how little screen time Hawkeye gets. In fact, he is set to have a much bigger role in “Avengers: Age Of Ultron,” but Whedon was keeping his lips sealed about the details. When asked about if audiences will learn more about Hawkeye, Whedon kept his answer short.

“Um, yeah, we are,” Whedon told Super Hero Hype. “‘Cause something’s up with that boy. That’s all I’m gonna say.”

Could that “something” be a guest spot on “Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 2? Fans will have to wait until the show returns in March 2015 to find out what happens.
