A war will begin in the “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 2 finale. After Jiaying (Dichen Lachman) killed Gonzales (Edward James Olmos) and made it look like she was acting in self-defense, the tensions between S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Inhumans will finally come to a breaking point. According to the synopsis, things are going to get quite intense during the two-hour episode.

“S.H.I.E.L.D. puts everything on the line to survive a war that blurs the line between friend and foe,” the synopsis for episodes 21 and 22, both titled "S.O.S.," says. Skye (Chloe Bennet) will have to choose a side. Coulson (Clark Gregg) is like her father, but Jiaying is her mother. She’ll have to choose between her real family and her surrogate parent.

What exactly “puts everything on the line” means isn’t clear, but Coulson’s team has plenty of secrets. It could mean a secret object they’ve hidden, like the weapon Raina and Gordon (Jamie Harris) found. The Inhumans would certainly like to have that back, so it might be used as a bargaining chip. However, “everything” could also refer to the lives of the team. After all, Raina’s vision of a battle with S.H.I.E.L.D. sounded deadly.

The agents will have to give up something, but it isn’t clear what. They “will be forced to make shocking sacrifices that will leave their relationships and their world changed forever,” the synopsis for the episodes teases. After Skye’s revelation that she wasn’t sure she was an agent anymore in episode 20, it looks like the team might be missing a member after episodes 21 and 22. Let’s just hope it isn’t a deadly finale.

Don’t expect the finale to tie up everything. While many questions will be answered, the writers have left things open to leave fans wanting more next year. “There is a cliffhanger for sure,” executive producer Maurissa Tancharoen told Zap2It. “You will be waiting for Season 3.”
