Fitz isn’t giving up on Simmons without a fight. The “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 3 premiere revealed that Coulson (Clark Gregg) wanted Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) to stop searching for Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge), who was abducted by the Kree monolith. In episode 2, titled “Purpose in the Machine,” Fitz will find another lead that even the team can’t overlook.

“Fitz and the team enlist the aid of an Asgardian to unlock the secrets of the ancient monolith that swallowed Simmons,” the synopsis states. That Asgardian will be Professor Elliot Randolph (Peter MacNicol), who was introduced in Season 1. The professor was an Asgardian who decided to stay behind on earth while traveling with an army centuries ago. Randolph has better knowledge of aliens than anyone else, so he might be able to help figure out where Simmons went.

Elsewhere, fans will finally hear from May (Ming-Na Wen), who was missing in the premiere. Coulson noted that she went on vacation and never came back. “Agent May is at a crossroads in her personal and professional life,” the synopsis teases.

As previously reported, May will be conflicted about what she wants. She is getting closer to her ex-husband Andrew (Blair Underwood), but she is also questioning who she should trust. “[May discovered] that there was definitely a lot of corruption at S.H.I.E.L.D., as well as uncertainty now with the Inhumans being brought in by Coulson,” Wen told TV Guide in August. “It's going to be figuring out her final decision in Season 3 and I think Andrew will probably play a part in it.”

Watch the trailer for “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 3, episode 2 below:

Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) is missing from the synopsis, but he appears in the trailer. It looks like he’ll be back as Hydra’s new leader. Hunter (Nick Blood) seemed to be preparing to go after him in episode 1, so there might be a big fight if Hunter finds the man who tortured Bobbi (Adrianne Palicki).

“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 3, episode 2 airs Tuesday at 9 p.m. EDT on ABC.
