“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” goes big for winter finales, so viewers should prepare for an intense hour. In the last episode of the ABC drama, Coulson (Clark Gregg) ended up following Fitz (Iain De Caestecker), Ward (Brett Dalton) and several Hydra agents through the portal to Maveth. In Season 3, episode 10, aptly titled “Maveth,” fans will see the agents on the other planet.

“S.H.I.E.L.D. and Hydra go head-to-head in a battle that will change Coulson’s world forever,” the brief winter finale synopsis teases. The good news is that despite hitting his head at the end of episode 9, Coulson still seems to be alive. However, it isn’t clear how his world will change. Could they mean that he’ll be stuck in a different world?

After Coulson wakes up, he’ll be reunited with Fitz. “Coulson and Fitz take the ultimate risk,” the synopsis adds. Are they willing to sacrifice themselves to keep that horrible creature on the foreign planet? Or will they try to get home and risk bringing the creature back with them?

The trailer shows the Secret Warriors and S.H.I.E.L.D. team trying to bring their men home. However, some of them question if they should open the portal when they could easily bring the monster to earth. Watch the “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 3 midseason finale promo video below:

If Coulson and Fitz stay in the other world, they’ll be missing a big battle back on Earth. “Daisy [Chloe Bennet] and her team of Inhumans fight to keep Hydra at bay,” the episode 10 summary says. This might give fans a glimpse at what’s to come next year, when the series focuses much more on the Inhumans storyline.

The press release for the episode also lists a couple of interesting guest stars. Andrew (Blair Underwood) will be seen again in the winter finale as will Rosalind (Constance Zimmer). The ATCU leader died in episode 9, but did she miraculously return? Or is she a hallucination or dream of Coulson’s? Fans will have to tune in to the midseason finale to find out.

“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 3, episode 10 airs Tuesday at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
