The reverend Al Sharpton has been confirmed as the new host of MSNBC's PoliticsNation.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by MSNBC president Phil Griffin.

I'm thrilled that he's now reached a point in his career where he's able to devote himself to hosting a nightly show, Griffin said of Sharpton in an MSNBC press release.

The show will premiere at 6 p.m. EST on Aug. 29.

Sharpton was recently filling in for Ed Schulz on MSNBC's The Ed Show.

I am very happy and honored to join the MSNBC team as we collectively try to get America to 'Lean Forward,' Sharpton said in the press release. It is a natural extension of my life work and growth.
