Sony Pictures announced that a sequel to "The Amazing Spider-Man" will be released in the 2014 summer movie season.

While most studios tend to wait for the success of the first movie, Sony seems to be anticipating tremendous success with upcoming "The Amazing Spider-Man" movie slated for a July 2012 theatre release, as they have already decided on the release date of the sequel.

"I think it speaks volumes about our confidence in what we are seeing on the new film and our desire to move quickly on the next installment," said a Sony spokesman.

Andrew Garfield, whose career has spiked since co-starring in "The Social Network", will play Peter Parker in the Spider-Man movies.
