40 million votes were cast to select the Top 10 of the new season of American Idol. Besides the ten selected from 24 hopefuls, three more contestants made it back into the race through wild card entry.
Judges Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson announced the Top 13 for Season Ten of American Idol on Thursday, March 3 in a nail-biting live two-hour results show.
The 13 finalists celebrated making the cut with a party at the Grove in Los Angeles.

'American Idol' has so far had Top 12 contestants in the biggest cut. But Season Ten turned scripted show history when the judges chose to let three wild card contestants through, thus making it Top 13.The Top 10 included: Casey Abrams, Lauren Alaina, James Durbin, Jacob Lusk, Scotty McCreery, Paul McDonald, Thia Megia, Haley Reinhart, Karen Rodriguez, and Pia Toscano.The wild card choices were: Naima Adedapo, Ashton Jones, and Stefano Langone.
