American Airlines said it and other Oneworld alliance members would offer $2 billion in financial aid to Japan Airlines <9205.T>.

The financial aid package includes a contribution from British Airways , Qantas Airways and Cathay Pacific Airways <0293.HK>, American Airlines said in a statement.

American is aiming to keep Japan Airlines from defecting to the Delta Air Lines and the SkyTeam airline group.
