On Sunday’s midseason finale episode, it was revealed that Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) was bit by a walker. This means that the young character will soon die in the upcoming episodes of the hit AMC TV series. Lincoln dished on what this would mean for his character, Rick, who happens to be Carl’s dad.

While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, the actor revealed that it was series creator Scott M. Gimple who told him about his plans for Riggs’ character. Initially, Lincoln gave Gimple four names of characters that he thinks will be killed off towards the end of Season 8, but none of them were correct.

“He had to tell me that it was the kid. I was so shocked that he said three times, ‘Are you there? Are you there? Are you there?’ I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t know what to say,” he said.

Lincoln said that he never predicted the possibility of Carl being killed off because he thought the young boy will be the future of the show.

Meanwhile, the actor admitted that it will be difficult to see Riggs go because he practically saw him grow up on set every day. “I saw this child grow into an amazing young man and in front of my eyes, and one of the best parts of this experience has been watching that young man turn into what he’s become today,” he said.

Lincoln also said that Riggs is “smart and incredibly composed as a young man.” “I just think to be able to navigate the schooling years in the zombie apocalypse, it takes a big man, and they found him in Chandler Riggs,” he added.

As of late, it is still unclear when exactly Carl will be killed off. But as a future walker, he could transfer to “Fear The Walking Dead.”

“The Walking Dead” Season 8 will return to AMC next year.
