The former Atlanta Braves star center fielder was arrested Christmas day after allegedly attacking his wife and threatening to kill her. Police Handout

Former Atlanta Braves star center fielder Andruw Jones was arrested Tuesday on suspected battery charges, and was released Wednesday on $2,500 bond.

Several news sources report that Jones was arrested following a domestic altercation involving his wife, Nicole Jones.

When police responded to a call at Jones’ house in the Sugarloaf Country Club near Duluth, Ga., at 1:25 a.m., a subsequent investigation led officers to arrest the sports star and charge him with battery.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution obtained the incident report that said after hosting a Christmas party on Tuesday night, where Jones reportedly had consumed several alcoholic beverages, his wife asked him to help prepare their home for Christmas morning.

She asked Jones to help her set up a computer table, according to the report, and as they assembled the table, Jones is accused of suddenly attacking her and grabbing her by the left arm. According to his wife, Jones grabbed her ankle as she attempted to go up stairs, after which he allegedly dragged her down, placed his hands around her neck and said, “I want to kill you, I want to [expletive] kill you.”

The police incident report said that authorities noted “visible injuries” on Nicole Jones at the scene.

Jail records indicated that Jones was booked into the Gwinnett County facility around 4 a.m. and was released around 11 a.m.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Joneses have been major supporters of Jaden’s Ladder, a group that aims to help domestic violence victims.
