Wildfires are ravaging across America in 11 states, burning 1.4 million acres, forcing the evacuation of 1,800 homes and businesses in Texas, and taking two firefighters' lives in Florida.

From Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, New Mexico, North Carolina, South Carolina and to Texas, the fast moving fires have burned some 1.4 million acres altogether.

A landowner from Grimes County in Texas described the scene to KHOU as Apocalypse. I've never seen anything like this. Such a beautiful forest two days ago and now look at it.

Over 10,000 firefighters are working to battle large fires and work toward containment in the southern states.

Although the number of wildfires this year in the U.S. is below the 10-year average, the acreage burned is three times the 10-year average, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
