Apple Inc. has reportedly scheduled a media event at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco on Tuesday Jan. 26, next year, for a major product announcement, according to media reports.
Citing inside sources, the Financial Times said Wednesday evening that Apple has rented the stage for several days. Apple did not make any official statement as of yet.
Meanwhile, Piper Analyst Gene Munster said in a research note that there is a 75 percent chance the company will make a January announcement. Munster also added that he sees a 50-50 chance of the rumored Apple Tablet to be unveiled at this January event.
We expect the multiple to increase as tablet hype builds and Street models begin to include tablet estimates, Munster said.
While the tablet is not currently in our model, we believe Apple could sell about 1.4 million units if the tablet shipped in March, adding 2 percent to revenue.
According to Silicon Alley Insider, a source said that Apple has asked developers to prepare full screen versions of their apps for a January demo. Apple reportedly wanted software to scale beyond the 320x480 pixel size of the current iPhone and iPod touch screen, but said that applications that can accommodate the larger screen size will run just fine on the new device.
