Apple recently confirmed that it is intentionally capping the processing power of its older-generation iPhones to preserve their longevity or battery life. However, even when there is this capping, iPhone batteries will still eventually lose their functionality. So when your iPhone starts notifying you about your battery’s health, you might want to consider having a battery replacement.

Apple offers new iPhone batteries for older-generation iPhones for $79 each. Though this is the best option out there, you may feel as though this isn’t the most inexpensive one when you have a tight budget or when you’re strapped for cash and your iPhone’s performance is already slowing down due to its battery’s poor state.

Buying DIY battery replacement kits may not be the best option, but it is definitely the more inexpensive one. Aside from saving some cash, replacing an iPhone battery on your own also gives you an idea on what you need to do the next time your iPhone battery becomes problematic again because, let’s face it, batteries wear out over time.

According to 9To5Mac, the most reputable option for a replacement kit is from iFixit. The company is known for providing guides on how to fix almost anything, and it’s also a good source of DIY kits. iFixit’s iPhone battery replacement kits start at $20 for iPhone SE and could go as high as $45 or $50 for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. There are $25 kits for the iPhone 6 and $30 kits for the iPhone 6s as well.

It is important to note that the battery replacement kits do not contain first-party Apple parts. However, each kit contains all the tools needed to replace a battery. There are also instructional materials available online such as the video found below.

Another recommended online source is Yontex, which sells its iPhone battery replacement kits via Amazon. The Chinese company has $23 kits for the iPhone 5,5c and 5s. It also has $26 kits for the iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s and 6s Plus. Like iFixit’s kits, Yontex’s kits also come with all the necessary tools and instruction manual.

It’s not that easy to replace an iPhone battery, especially in the case of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus due to their waterproof design. But when done right, you get to enjoy longer battery life with your phone. However, keep in mind that this voids your warranty.
