Arrow
Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy, left) will have to step in until Oliver (Stephen Amell, right) returns in the midseason premiere of "Arrow" Season 3. The CW

Is Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) really dead? “Arrow” fans will find out soon enough, but with the CW series returning Wednesday for the second half of Season 3, someone else will have to step up in the hero’s absence. That someone will be Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) and a new promo for the midseason premiere, “Left Behind,” shows Laurel taking control of Team Arrow with Oliver M.I.A.

The new promo video shows Laurel Lance getting the news from the rest of Team Arrow that Oliver never came back from his fight with Ra’s Al Ghul (Matt Nable). Despite the bad news, Laurel remains confident that he will return, telling everyone “he’s come back before, he’ll come back this time.” Fans already know that Laurel will be taking over her sister’s role as the Black Canary, stepping into the spotlight until Oliver’s supposed return.

According to the synopsis for episode 10, Team Arrow will be trying to keep Starling City safe in its leader’s absence. However, a visit from Merlyn (John Barrowman) convinces a heartbroken Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) that Oliver might actually be gone for good, no matter what Laurel believes. Plus, Roy (Colton Hayes) will try out a new weapon in his new suit.

Can fans believe Laurel’s promise in the new promo that Oliver will return, or is their favorite hero really gone for good? Fans will have to wait to find out. The midseason premiere of “Arrow” Season 3, “Left Behind,” airs Wednesday at 8 p.m. EST on the CW.
