Arrow Curtis and Felicity

Is there room for two geniuses on Team Arrow? Felicity has always been the brains on “Arrow,” but Curtis will be even more involved in Season 5 of the CW drama when actor Echo Kellum becomes a series regular. It would seem like he is taking over at least some of Felicity’s duties, but executive producer Wendy Mericle warned that they’ll actually complement each other.

“Essentially, if she’s software, he’s hardware,” Mericle told TVLine. “As he evolves into becoming Mr. Terrific in Season 5, one of the things we’re really exploring is differentiating them by having Curtis be more like Cisco on ‘The Flash.’ We want him to be a bit more hands-on, a little more about building physical tech.”

Crossovers with “The Flash” have proved how well Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) and Cisco (Carlos Valdes) work together. Even though Felicity has a pretty good relationship with Curtis, Oliver (Stephen Amell) hasn’t exactly warmed up to the tech wiz. “There is definitely room for some of that tension to be delved deeper into in season five,” Kellum told Vulture last month.

But it sounds like Oliver will have plenty of distractions while Felicity and Curtis work on things in the secret lair. He’ll be fighting a new villain, Tobias Church (Chad L. Coleman), who will try to unite all of the bad guys in Star City. It could lead to some epic fights. Amell recently teased that he was already training for a massive stunt in the “Arrow” Season 5 premiere.

While Felicity gets help behind the keyboard, Oliver will get some help in the field. Artemis (Madison McLaughlin), Wild Dog (Rick Gonzalez) and Vigilante (Adrian Chase) will join the ranks of Star City’s superheroes this fall.

“Arrow” Season 5 premieres Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 8 p.m. EDT on the CW.
