Arsenal's troubles were compounded after a 2-0 loss to Liverpool at the Emirates, after they had debutant Emmanuel Frimpong sent off.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger surprisingly included wantway midfielder Samir Nasri, who is expected to move to Manchester City, in his starting XI. Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish, for his part, also included sprang a surprise, dropping Luis Suarez to the bench.

14 minutes into the game, Arsenal's already depleted squad to a further beating when centre back Laurent Koscielny limped off clutching his back. It saw another debutant, Ignasi Miquel, come on as replacement.

Liverpool dominated possession for most part of the first half, with Andy Carroll seeing his headed effort denied by a diving Szczesny. As the half progressed though, Arsenal improved. Nasri was committed to his cause and was applauded by the Arsenal fans when he raced forward after some sublime footwork to drive from 30 yards. However, he had a pulled it just wide.

On 68 minutes, Gunners' new captain Robin van Persie should have done better from six yards out, after being picked out by Arshavin, as he struck a weak shot straight at Pepe Reina. Minutes later, Frimpong was sent off six minutes later for a second yellow after bringing down Lucas, giving Liverpool the edge.

At 78 minutes, Arsenal were unlucky to concede as Miquel's clearance rebounded off Ramsey, over the helpless Szczesny and into goal. Liverpool then sealed the win in stoppage when striking on the counter after Raul Meireles squared the ball to Suarez who side-footed in easily.
