Arsenal only needed a first-half strike to continue their winning streak as the Gunners defeated Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday night, 1-0.

In the eighth minute, Robin van Persie delivered a fine ball to the goal box from a corner kick, and Thomas Vermaelen climbed the ladder to head the ball by a hapless Tim Howard. The Gunners have had their struggles in recent months with scoring goals off corners, even when imposing centre back Per Mertersacker was starting matches.

The Vermaelen header was all Arsene Wenger's squad needed as Everton failed to mount sufficient pressure on Arsenal's defenders. The Gunners have now won six-straight EPL matches.

Arsenal took 14 shots with four shots on goal, while Everton took seven shots, with only one on target. The Gunners controlled possession for 72 percent of the match.

With the Tottenham - Stoke City match ending in a draw, Arsenal are now firmly in third place in the Premier League. Meanwhile, Liverpool continue to fade, as the Reds lost to Queens Park Rangers.
