Apple's iPhone 5 would have an 8 megapixel camera and a redesigned antenna, but it may not feature the Long-Term Evolution (LTE) and Near field communication (NFC) capabilities.

Following is the latest information with respect to Apple's iPhone 5.

* Apple's iPhone 5 is expected to feature an 8 megapixel camera using OmniVision's CMOS sensor and Taiwan-based Largan's lens, FBR Capital Markets analyst Craig Berger wrote in a note to clients, citing contacts.

* Sony will be a backup image sensor supplier for 2012, depending on Sony's supply availability following the tragic Japanese earthquake.

* Jefferies analyst Peter Misek, citing industry contacts, said iPhone 5 may not have LTE. The analyst said he believes the likelihood of the iPhone 5 launch in September including LTE is now remote. We believe Qualcomm's LTE 8960 chipset is currently not achieving yields sufficient for inclusion in the iPhone 5, Misek wrote in a note to clients.

* iPhone 5 will not employ NFC capabilities, Berger said citing industry checks.

* Analyst Berger said, referring to contacts, Qualcomm is set to replace Intel/ Infineon as the baseband supplier in the iPhone 5, with Qualcomm's solution a CDMA and WCDMA enabled baseband that will allow Apple to streamline production of the iPhone for various countries around the world (a world phone).

* Apple has redesigned their antenna in hopes of by-passing their 'death-grip' issues and dropped call issues from the iPhone 4, Berger said.

* Taiwan Semiconductor may begin to produce Apple's A5 or A6 (coming) processors in 2012 as Apple looks to diversify away from Samsung, and in response to concerns that Samsung could see a shortage of raw silicon ingot wafers.

* Apple may continue to manufacture and sell the iPhone 4 (at a lower price) while positioning the iPhone 5 as a higher tier and higher priced product.

* FBR Capital Markets now sees 43 million iPhones built in the first half of 2011, suggesting Apple will build about 90 million phones in 2011, down from its previous estimate of 100 million to 105 million, on weak CDMA iPhone sales.

* According to industry checks, iPhone 5 should be called iPhone 4S and include minor cosmetic changes, better cameras, A5 dual-core processor, and HSPA+ support, Peter Misek wrote in a note to clients.

*Misek, citing industry checks, said Apple will likely announce Sprint, T-Mobile, and another China carrier as new carriers.
