Who Should Play Casey Anthony in the Movie About the Trial?
As news of Casey Anthony's 'Not Guilty' verdict rocked the nation yesterday, speculation began about the inevitable book and film projects that will tell the sordid story of Caylee's death and the ensuing trial.
While it's disturbing to think that Casey could profit from her child's tragic, wrongful death, we can't help but wonder who might play her in the studio film of the Casey Anthony story.
Kristen Stewart
The 'Twilight' actress’s pale, gaunt look and sullen demeanor have made Kristen Stewart the top speculative choice for playing Casey Anthony in the Hollywood version – with some suggesting that the actress may have already signed on to a project.
Angelina Jolie
Although the real Angelina is famous for her humanitarian work and ever-expanding brood, Jolie has experience playing killer, victim, and clinically insane –all which would help round out a portrayal of Casey Anthony. ‘Screen Junkies’ chose Angelina for the role in their mock-casting of the movie.
Natalie Portman
Famously a new mom herself, Natalie Portman won an Oscar this year for a role that took her to the dark side, and her omnipresent childlike innocence would bring dimension to her portrayal of the exonerated child killer. Although commercially unsuccessful, Portman’s 2010 film “The Other Woman” cast her as a guilt-stricken mother of a dead child in an ambiguous role that kept the audience guessing.
Anne Hathaway
Anne Hathaway’s portrayal of an alcoholic and (SPOILER ALERT) manslaughter perp in “Rachel Getting Married” proved that the smiley rom-com standard could play off the rails with the best of them. After her dismal performance as co-host of the 2011 Academy Awards, Hathaway is probably eager to redeem herself.
Scarlett Johansson
Because you don’t have to be a brunette in real life to play one on the big screen, Scarlett Johansson might be on some casting directors’ radar. The up-for-anything actress was at her best playing a desperate, troubled mistress in Woody Allen’s “Match Point”, and while she might not be the obvious choice for the role of Casey Anthony, neither was Charlize Theron the most likely candidate to play a serial killer in “Monster” – and look how that turned out.
