CNN has cancelled the political talk show “In The Arena” which was hosted by former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer, according to a report in the New York Times.

The show’s 8 pm (EDT) time slot will be filled by Anderson Cooper’s newscast which previously aired at 10 p.m.

Spitzer, who joined the ranks of television news pundits following is disgraceful resignation from the governor’s office due to a sex-and-prostitute scandal, issyed the following statement through CNN: “We engaged serious people in conversations about national and global issues in a way that was informative and challenging. I believe that we provided diverse and valuable perspectives during the show’s tenure.”

He added: I thoroughly enjoyed my time at CNN.”

However, Spitzer’s days at CNN might not be over.

The Times said that a CNN executive Ken Jautz stated in an internal memorandum that the network is currently “in discussions with Eliot Spitzer about an alternative role.”

Spitzer’s tenure at CNN has been troubled from the beginning. The show was initially called “Parker Spitzer,” which he co-hosted with columnist Kathleen Parker. Poor ratings and rumors of bickering among the stars plagued the series. Parker departed earlier this year.

Sptizer also was cursed by appearing at the same time as Fox Network’s highly-rated Bill O’Reilly/Facoprt news program.
