A massive shopping online fraud has yielded 90 arrests in Romania.

According to Romanian police, the suspects allegedly cheated hundreds of online shoppers – mostly Americans – out of an estimated $20-million by offering for sale nonexistent goods on such Web sites as eBay and Craigslist.org.

The products “sold” included cars, motorbikes, boats and electronics.

Prosecutors in Romania said that the con-men used phony identities to transfer money to Romania from foreign countries

The arrests spanned Romania, with police searching more than 110 houses in nine cities. It is believed that a well-established organized crime gang was behind the scam.
