An outbreak of green algae has yet again invaded the coastline of Qingdao, Shandong province in China.

The algal growth coated large swathes of offshore waters in green muck in the Olympic co-host city Qingdao's sailing venue in 2008 also.

In 2010, the algae-filled coastline affected the region's tourism.

Though the algae, named enteromorpha prolifera, is non-poisonous for humans, it may affect marine life by blocking sunlight, according to scientists.
