Gizmodo's Alyssa Bereznak Blasted for Dissing 'Magic' Champ

Alyssa Bereznak, an editor at Gizmodo, unleashed a withering public attack on hedge fund professional Jon Finkel after the two went on a date arranged through Web site OkCupid.

Finkel just happens to be once the world champion of "Magic:The Gathering," a collectible card game that was introduced in the 1990s. The omission in his OkCupid profile didn't sit too well with Bereznak, who apparently didn't learn he was the "Magic" champ until their first date.

Bereznak publicized her thoughts on Gizmodo in a nasty post, and in doing so, she was blasted by Netizens everywhere, even within Gizmodo.

She said "just like you're obligated to mention you're divorced or have a kid in your online profile, shouldn't someone also be required to disclose any indisputably geeky world championship titles."

She further criticized Finkel, who is a hedge fund manager, for still playing the card game.

In an unedited version of her article posted on the Australian Gizmodo edition, she accused Finkel of "lying" on his profile and "infiltrat[ing]" his way to OkCupid dates with two people she knew. She called him a "world champion of nerds" and a "champion dweeb in hedge funder's clothing."

The reactions to Bereznak's post were overwhelmingly negative. Perhaps the most blistering one was by Elly Hart of Gizmodo Australia.

Hart said Bereznak "is making us females look bad" and shames the entire gender for saying those "b**chy comments."

Hart added that Bereznak's behavior was "predatory," "trollish," and "creepy."

She also said her fellow Gizmodo writer "f**ked with some poor guy's head and then publicly humiliated him."
