Tastebuds.fm has released a new study revealing that Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and Nickelback all top a list of musicians whose songs are the biggest turnoffs for users, crossing gender lines as both men and women vote the acts as least likely to lead to sex or romance.

The Tastebuds study surveyed thousands of users through its web site and other social media. In general, the study found music turnoffs divided along gender lines, with women more likely to be turned off by female-only acts, including Katy Perry, Taylor Swift and Rihanna. Men, on the other hand, were largely turned off by male acts and groups, such as Eminem, Dave Matthews Band and Mumford & Sons.

For both men and women, however, 10 musical turnoffs topped the list: Nickelback, Justin BIeber, Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, Coldplay, U2, Creed, Katy Perry, Lil Wayne and Britney Spears. Rihanna's music was present on both lists, but was ranked low enough as a turnoff by men to escape the dreaded top ten list.

The divide between men being turned off by male singers and women losing the mood with female acts may have something to do with the study's format, which targets a majority population of heterosexual young adults. These artists, while targeting that demographic, often sing heteronormative songs meant to address the opposite sex, making it less likely for a girl to get turned on by Rihanna and for a boy to view Dave Matthews Band as a turn-on.

As for the top ten, which include many of the most popular artists of this generation, the answer may lie in the song's lyrics (many of these artists are known for mushier ballads more suited to tween romance, its beat or genre (almost all these artists are pop singers), or the users' perception of the musicians themselves.

If your favorite sings and bands show up in Tastebuds.fm's musicial turnoff list, don't fret. Users at the networking site are matched based on music preference, so it's likely a biased study. And while Coldplay also topped another list by Tastebud.fm last year, when the band was voted least likely to encourage sex on a first date, frontman Chris Martin is currently a millionaire married to Gwyneth Paltrow, indicating the results aren't foolproof.

Then again, tween pop sensation Justin Bieber does top this list, which means they must be doing something right. Click through our photos to see how the numbers played out, and which musicians were (dis)favored by men and women.
