Virginia Tech Shootings: Photos of the Ongoing Search for Suspect

A Virginia Tech police officer and an unidentified victim were shot and killed by an unidentified suspect on Thursday afternoon on the school's campus.

The names of the victims haven't been released.

The school also postponed final exams that were scheduled for Friday.

Dana Cruikshank, communications manager for the College of Architecture and Urban Studies at Virginia Tech, said the incident happened shortly after noon today where a "routine traffic stop" was made at the Coliseum parking lot near McComas Hall.

Witnesses to the shooting have told police that the shooter fled the scene on foot, heading toward the Cage, a parking lot near Duck Pond Drive.

Authorities who responded to the parking lot scene found a second person who has been confirmed dead.

Several law enforcement agencies to include the state police, FBI and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives have responded to help with the search.

Virginia State Police has been asked to lead the investigation, the school said.

The shooting forced the school to ask students and staff to take cover in door. Visitors were also asked to not come to the campus.
