It seems the honeymoon for owners of the new iPad is coming to an end, with users reporting more problems to Apple forums by the day. The latest: incompatible smart covers

If you have tried to use some 2011 model smart covers on your new iPad, you have probably noticed that the on/off sensor doesn't work.

The problem is apparently due to polarity. The iPad 2′s sleep/wake sensor wasn't polarity-specific, photographer Mark Booth told Mashable. And that apparently led to an issue for iPad 2 users who flipped their smart covers around so that they sat flush with the back of the tablet -- an everyday act that could cause the iPad 2 to switch off unintentionally.

iPad owners have warned people in Apple forums to buy smart covers only from Apple as other outlets are stocked with older versions of the covers that generally don't work with the new iPad.

Some users have found that the iPads they purchased in 2011 do work with the new iPad, however, which suggests Apple made the polarity change sometime last year, with newer covers supporting the latest model of the tablet.

If you have purchased an older version of the smart cover, it is likely Apple will exchange it for a newer version, according to one user on the Mac Forum.
