On Tuesday, former fifth grade teacher Christine McCallum, 32, pleaded guilty to 12 counts of child rape, one count of drugging a victim for sex, and one count of supplying alcohol to a minor. She was sentenced to 29 months in prison and 10 years of probation.

McCallum had been carrying on a sexual relationship with a young boy for about two years; it began when he was 13.

McCallum met her victim at the Abington, Mass. public library, where she was tutoring his brother. She allegedly became something of a mother figure to the boy, reports the Boston Globe. After giving alcohol to the minor, said prosecutors, McCallum progressed to kissing and cuddling with him. They reportedly first had sex in February 2006, in McCallum's home.

Since then, the boy told police, the two had sex about every other day. McCallum also sent a series of messages to the boy, which were not explicitly sexual but pledged her love for him.

It's hard to be with you and set boundaries, said one message sent via MySpace, according to the Boston Herald. It's hard to kiss you and tell you no. Another letter said, There's no question I will choose you over this job. That's a very easy decision.

McCallum was arrested in 2009 when the victim's father discovered the affair. He called her a true predator and monster. She proclaimed innocence, and her attorneys dismissed the letters by saying they spoke to her role as a surrogate mother. During the arraignment, McCallum held hands with her husband, Scott.

Now that she has been sentenced, her lawyer stated that McCallum is supported by her family and received a fair punishment. She will likely serve jail time at the Barnstable House of Correction, reports the Patriot Ledger. After that, she will be fitted with a GPS tracking device and will register as a sex offender.
