Sabrina The Teenage Witch is returning to our lives in the form of a movie.

The beloved T.G.I.F. TV series starring Melissa Joan Hart will be transformed into a movie by Sony Pictures, with Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari (Die In A Gunfight) teaming up for the script, Deadline reported on Wednesday.

The film will be produced by Don Murphy and Susan Montford (the brains behind the Hugh Jackman action flick Real Steel), with Archie Comics' Jon Goldwater and screenwriter Jeff Stockwell (Bridge to Terabithia) serving as executive producer and co-producer, respectively.

Deadline also added that Mark Waters (Mean Girls) is in talks to sit in the director's chair, but all will depend on his schedule. Waters was part of the team that pitched the Sabrina movie to Sony.

Sabrina The Teenage Witch first premiered on the tube in 1996, and would run for seven more seasons. The TV series undoubtedly launched the career of Hart, who was 19 when the show started. Over the years, the actress has appeared in a number of TV movies and short film projects, along with guest appearances on That '70s Show and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and a stint on Dancing With The Stars season 9 (she finished in ninth place with partner Mark Ballas).

According to Deadline, the new film will be edgier than the TV series (and the animated series that followed). Salem, the black cat, will have a major role as a transformed prince creating unique love stories for Sabrina.

With a potential director in Waters, the film's next item of business will most likely be the cast.
