Starting in May, McDonald's is rolling out their Flavors of Summer' limited time menu that features new fresh berries blends and breakfast options.

At McDonald's, fruit continues to come to life and this summer we are celebrating with two new menu choices, said Cindy Goody, PhD, MBA, RD, LDN, Senior Director of Nutrition for McDonald's USA.

The first option is the McCafe Cherry Berry Chiller, made with cherries and raspberries blended with ice. It's made of 100 percent fruit juice. The small will be $1.69, with the large coming in at $2.29.

The McCafe Cherry Berry Chiller joins McDonald's offerings of McCafe fruit smoothies and espresso drinks.

McDonald's is also offering a new breakfast option: Blueberry Banana Nut Oatmeal. The Blueberry Banana Nut Oatmeal mixes in blueberries, walnuts, and a hint of banana. A quarter cup of the oatmeal is 290 calories. It will be available until August 3 for 2.49.

The new Blueberry Banana Nut Oatmeal and Cherry Berry Chiller help make the delicious flavors of fruit more accessible and convenient. Both options support McDonald's ongoing commitment to offer customers a variety of affordable and great-tasting menu choices,' said Goody according to a statement.

McDonald's rolls out limited time offers and seasonal items to keep the menu fresh.

Wendy Cook, vice president of U.S. marketing at McDonald's said seasonal items helps bring in new customers who may frequent other fast food chains, reported the Jackson Sun.

Obviously, customers are out there and they're frequenting different places, Cook said. They're starved for variety.

McDonald's has been the top fast food chain, beating out Subway and Starbucks, who come in at two and three respectively. This is a big change from 2006, when the top three food chains in terms of sales were hamburger chains, McDonald's, Burger King, and Wendy's.
