German luxury carmaker Audi has released the details of all all-electric Audi A3 e-tron concept, a vehicle that will hit the market sometime in the near future. The electric car is based on the 2011 Audi A3 Sportback.

The car will be provided with a 26.5 kWh lithium-ion battery which sends power to an electric motor with a peak output of 136 PS (100 kW / 134 hp) and 270 Nm (199 lb-ft) of torque.

The carmaker says that Audi A3 e-tron has a range of about 140km, depending on the driving conditions, while battery recharge times vary according to the power outlet. With a 400-volt rapid charger, the Audi A3 e-tron can be fully recharged in around four hours. Using a standard 230-volt charger it takes around nine hours.

However, the carmaker has not revealed plans as to when it will hit the markets. But reports say it is expected to launch some time after the Audi R8 e-tron though, which is planned for 2013.
