A woman who the broke into an elementary school playground in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Tuesday with an ax and threatened to kill everyone inside, was arrested by the police.

The suspect, who was identified as Kisstal Killough, 33, climbed the chain link fence surrounding Tom Williams Elementary School, located at 3000 block of East Tonopah Avenue in North Las Vegas, around noon, ABC affiliated 10 News reported.

Armed with a pickax, Killough threatened to kill all the children who were present in the playground, the North Las Vegas Police Department said.

According to the public information officer, 250 elementary school children were occupying the playground at the time Killough tried to get into the facility. She was acting erratic and screaming violent threats at everyone present there. The children were having their lunch a “good distance” away from suspect.

Within a minute, the police arrived at the scene. Before they could give orders, Killough jumped down on the ground, dropped her ax and surrendered peacefully.

She was taken into police custody and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, trespass not amounting to burglary, nuisance and loitering about a school/place where children congregate.

According to Eric Leavitt, public information officer for North Las Vegas Police Department, Killough was possibly under the influence of drugs and appeared to be mentally impaired during the time of the incident, Patch reported.

The principal of Tom Williams forwarded a letter to parents of Tom Williams’ students, informing them of the incident that occurred in the school that day.

“We want to let you know that earlier today, an adult, not associated with our school, attempted to climb a fence to trespass on our campus. Staff and students noticed the woman and law enforcement was called,” the letter read. “Officers from the North Las Vegas Police Department responded immediately and took the woman into custody before she could access the playground area. The woman did not harm anyone or cause any damage to the school.”

The principal thanked North Las Vegas Police Department for their quick response time and handling the situation smoothly.

“This incident serves as an important opportunity to remind our parents and students of safe practices and to look out for each other,” the letter added. “If you or your child notices something suspicious or a person on campus who does not have a CCSD ID, please notify one of our staff members immediately.”

Killough was booked into the Las Vegas Detention Center after her arrest and remained in police custody through Tuesday night. She was being held on a $23,420 bail.

It is not immediately known what Killough's motive was. It is also unclear as to when she is scheduled to appear in court for her hearing.

According to Heavy.com, Killough has been arrested for a number of crimes in Clark County, Nevada, and in Bexar County, Texas.

Killough was charged with stealing property worth between $50 and $500 in Bexar County in 2006; she was charged with two counts of obtaining/possession of another person’s credit card without the cardholder’s consent as well as two counts of using someone else’s identification information in 2007.
