Barcelona is the best place to party for New Year with best parties in the world, Skyscanner, a leading flight search site has revealed. The Spanish city tops the site’s list of most popular places for partying on New Year, followed by Edinburgh and Iceland.

The Spanish city has long been known for its vivid New Year celebrations when people eat 12 grapes in 12 seconds with each of the 12 chimes, symbolizing 12 months, when the clock strikes 12 midnight. The tradition of eating grapes is very famous and is believed to bring good luck. According to Skyscanner, Barcelona is one of the most accessible cities to visit in 2011 with direct flights to the city from fourteen airports across the UK.

The flight search site revealed results of its poll to find the most desirable destinations to spend New Year in which, Barcelona exceled with 12 percent of the vote followed by Edinburgh in Scotland with 11.5 percent and London with 9.5 percent of the votes. Edinburgh’s street party culture with live musical nights and stunning fireworks is known world-wide, while London’s extensive fireworks at London Eye on New Year’s eve makes it as one of the most popular city for partying, Skyscanner said.

The fourth slot in the chart was won by Iceland’s capital, Reykjavik winning 9 percent of the votes. The place is well known for its party culture around bonfires and striking fireworks. Visiting Reykjavik also gets you the advantage of seeing breathtakingly beautiful Northern Lights, a natural phenomenon in the night skies observed on polar ends, the site said.

Following these cities in fireworks that light up the skies and attract visitors on New Year is Paris, voted fifth with 8 percent of votes in Skyscanner’s poll result. Amsterdam, Berlin, Venice, Prague and Rome won rest of the votes for being popular cities for partying on New Year.
