Major League Baseball Player Wilson Ramos, the catcher for the Washington Nationals, has reportedly been kidnapped in Venezuela.

He was reportedly kidnapped from Maracay, Venezuela, his home country, where he has been playing for the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League's Aragua Tigers, according to reports.

The team confirmed the grim reports on Twitter Wednesday, shocking the sports world.

Tigers Spokeswoman Kathe Vilera reported via her Twitter feed that Ramos was picked up from his home by four armed men in a pickup truck.

It did not appear that the Nationals were commenting on the situation yet as of 9 p.m. Wednesday, as the team's Twitter feed and website had not been updated to reflect such a move.

Ramos is an integral part of the Nationals organization, hitting .267 with 15 home runs last season.
