WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD

“Bates Motel” returned to A&E for its second season with a bang on Monday. With the murder of Miss Watson and the underground drug business front and center in White Pine Bay, viewers better lock their motel room doors.

Episode 2, “Shadow of Doubt,” is set to air next Monday, but fans don’t have to wait until then to get the scoop on what Norma and Norman will be up to. The season 2 premiere previewed Norman’s obsession with Miss Watson’s death, and next week Norma will try to take his mind off of it – by forcing him to join a play.

Unfortunately Norma doesn’t realize that her son has more problems piling up on his plate. Besides focusing on Miss Watson, Norman’s also got himself tangled in Bradley’s latest batch of trouble – the murder of Gil. His ex-hookup will turn to him for help in escaping the “dire situation.” But what kind of help is she looking for?

A sneak peek video of “Shadow of Doubt” teases that Bradley might be looking for money to flee town. The clip shows Norman searching a room – more than likely Dylan’s – and finding a paper bag full of cash. But before Norman can hand the money over to his love, he’s interrupted by the arrival of his mother. Norma calls for her son, but he keeps quiet until he can put everything back in place. Believing he’s downstairs practicing taxidermy, Norma heads into the basement. And while Norman might not be down there, someone is – Bradley. Hiding out until Norman can bring the money, Bradley grabs a knife and hides behind a wall from Norma. But fortunately Bradley doesn’t have to use the knife because Norman finds his mom in the nick of time.

Turns out that Norma was searching for Norman to share some of the sheet music she found for them to practice. Although initially self-conscious about singing (perhaps due to Bradley’s presence), Norma eventually gets him to chime in with an old song they used to sing before bed together – “Mr. Sandman.”

Don’t expect episode 2 to be an hourlong singalong, though. As the body count in White Pine Bay grows, Sheriff Romero will become pressured to make an arrest for the murder. The question that everyone is asking, though, is WHICH murder? Gil, Miss Watson … or maybe even Jerry Martin?

Whether or not Gil’s murder makes it to the police, it sounds like Dylan and Remo are going to be dealing with the consequences of his death when a new player shows up at work … putting everyone on edge.
