Caleb (Kenny Johnson, left) will reprise his role as Dylan's (Max Thieriot) father in "Bates Motel" Season 3. Premiere airs on A&E Monday, March 9. A&E

The daddy/uncle drama will continue on “Bates Motel.” In Season 2 of the A&E series, viewers were introduced to Caleb (Kenny Johnson), Norma’s (Vera Farmiga) estranged brother. She previously discussed him, but didn’t tell her kids that her brother had raped her and was the father of her oldest son, Dylan (Max Thieriot). Needless to say, it was a nasty bombshell when the truth finally came out.

Although Caleb disappeared by the end of the season, he’ll return in Season 3 of “Bates Motel” to stir up more trouble. But as fans of the “Psycho” prequel know, there is always another side of the story.

“That’s an incredibly loaded situation,” executive producer, co-creator and writer Kerry Ehrin teased of Caleb’s return during a press call for the Season 3 premiere.

“He is a series regular this season so you’re going to be seeing a lot of him,” EP and co-creator Carlton Cuse added. “It’s not a simplistic relationship … he’s not just a bad guy. We just didn’t paint him with one color, and I think a lot of this season is untangling all of the layers of the relationship that he has with Norma and also with Dylan, his son.”

When we last left off, Dylan didn’t know who to trust. His relationship with Norma had always been strained, and he finally had found a family member who he shared similarities with. When Caleb revealed that he was looking for money to buy a hotel in Costa Rica, Dylan gladly offered it to him. However, when he found out the truth about Caleb he didn’t know what to believe. He confronted him, and Caleb promised him that Norma wasn’t saying everything. To prove his sincerity he returned Dylan’s money to him. With so much going on in town, Caleb’s storyline got pushed aside as the season progressed. Norman (Freddie Highmore) had one of his blackouts and attacked Caleb at the hotel he was staying at. Norman was trying to protect his mother, but Caleb was much stronger than him. He left, and “Bates Motel” fans haven’t seen him since.

“There’s really beautiful stuff that happens between Vera and Kenny and Max as they play this unfolding drama,” Cuse concluded.

“Bates Motel” fans can find out what the EP’s have in store for the characters when Season 3 premieres on A&E on Monday, March 9, at 9 p.m. EDT.
