Bates Motel
Norman (Freddie Highmore) will deal with the fallout from the deadly furnace leak in the Season 4 finale of “Bates Motel.” A&E

Well, if you thought the Season 4 finale synopsis for “Bates Motel” was cryptic, then just wait until you watch the promo video for the episode. A&E released the trailer for the final episode of Season 4 over the weekend, and fans won’t want to miss a moment of the “Psycho” prequel.

When viewers last left off in episode 9, Norman (Freddie Highmore) managed to successfully convince Dr. Edwards (Damon Gupton) and Norma (Vera Farmiga) to allow him to come home. Dylan (Max Thieriot) and Romero (Nestor Carbonell) were the only ones who could see that Norman is a dangerous young man, but Norma was blinded out of love for her youngest son. She broke things off with Romero and agreed to leave town with Norman to start over. However, Norman had other plans for his beloved mother. Never wanting to be apart from her again, Norman turned on their broken furnace and closed all the vents in the house. An unsuspecting Norma was asleep as the deadly fumes took over her bedroom.

Romero broke into the house and quickly discovered that something was wrong. But he may have arrived too late. The episode ended with the sheriff crying over Norma’s unconscious body as Norman woke up.

The new promo video shows brief clips from the finale. Ambulances and other emergency vehicles can be seen outside of the motel, presumably to whisk Norman and Norma away to the hospital. In another clip, Romero can be seen getting physically violent with Norman. Yet another sneak peek shows him grabbing his gun to go after someone. It’s safe to assume that the sheriff blames Norman for what happened to Norma. And he’s right to do so. However, fans can’t forget about the note that Norma wrote for Romero at the end of episode 9. The note was simply a goodbye for Norma as she planned to leave town with Norman. But with the furnace fiasco, Norma’s letter may be interpreted as a suicide note.

As previously reported, the synopsis for the finale, titled “Norman,” doesn’t reveal much. The episode description simply teases that Norman will be planning a “special event” for his mother. So, does that mean that Norma survives? Or could the “special event” be her funeral. Since the promo video for episode 10 doesn’t include new footage of Norma, “Bates Motel” fans will have to tune into the finale on A&E on Monday, May 16 to find out what happens.
