Bates Motel
The consequences of Norman’s (Freddie Highmore) actions will be revealed in the Season 4 finale of “Bates Motel.” A&E

Can Norma be saved in the “Bates Motel” Season 4 finale? The synopsis for episode 10 of the A&E series is not giving away any spoilers.

Episode 9 concluded Monday with Norma (Vera Farmiga) isolating herself from everyone for Norman (Freddie Highmore). Both Dylan (Max Thieriot) and Romero (Nestor Carbonell) tried to convince her that her youngest son needs, help but Norma was too blinded by love to see the truth. Unfortunately, that might have caused her demise. Norman (Freddie Highmore) appeared to fully lose it, turning on the furnace and closing the vents in Norma’s bedroom so that he could carry out the perfect murder-suicide and be with his mother forever. Romero found them before the episode ended, but Norma wouldn’t wake up.

The question heading into the finale is whether Norman succeeded in killing his mother, which would set the fifth and final season of “Bates Motel” on the path toward Alfred Hitchcock’s “Psycho” storyline.

According to the cryptic synopsis for episode 10, titled “Norman,” the troubled White Pine Bay resident will plan a “special event for Norma.” But what exactly could that “special event” be? Well, if Norma doesn’t make it, then viewers could potentially be seeing her funeral play out in the finale. Or, the synopsis could be hinting at some sort of dream or hallucination that Norman has as a side effect of almost dying.

Meanwhile, Romero will “face pressure due to his actions.” Just like the previous teaser, this could have multiple meanings. It could either be referring to fallout from Bob Paris’ (Kevin Rahm) death or have something to do with Norma’s condition.

Finally, the episode description for the finale reveals that Dylan will think about “reaching out” to his brother. “Bates Motel” fans will just have to tune in to episode 10 on Monday to see how everything plays out.

The Season 4 finale will air on A&E Monday, May 16, at 9 p.m. EDT.
