Gone are the days where hotels are simply known as a place to rest one's head after a long day of vacation-related activities. Many hotels worldwide are stepping it up as they prove that they can also be a place of play.

There are seven hotels, in particular, that are giving standard lodging options a run for their money.

African Giraffe Sanctuary

Kenya's African Giraffe Sanctuary doubles as a wildlife conservation and a hotel. Guests will get to eat, sleep and play with the hotel's on-site herd of Rothschild's giraffe. Giraffe Manor, the name of the lodge, can be booked for a night stay or as part of a complete safari.

Sala Silver Mine

Sala Silvermine is a Sweedish mine that also offers lodging accommodations. Guests that book their stay can partake in guided tours and other activities like its High Wire Track, a 300-meter long challenge that allows participants to venture up into the treetops.

De Glace, Ice Hotel

This Canadian hotel is made entirely of snow and ice, making it the only lodging option of its kind throughout North America. The winter-themed hotel reconstructs its design annually, but it currently features must-attend on-site amenities like its indoor waterpark and winter playground. Rooms, however, are only available from Jan. 4 until March 25, 2018.

717 Fuselage Hotel

This Costa Rica-based hotel uniquely appears as a crashed plane resting between jungle trees, which the 717 Fuselage created by refurbishing a vintage 1965 Boeing 727 airframe, according to its website. There are more traditional lodging options available, but the heart of the hotel is its jungle-inspired suites.

Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort

For individuals interested in escaping to Finland, this world-renowned resort is one of the best places to view the Northern Lights because it rests right underneath the aurora borealis. Guests that book their stay at the Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort will also have access to its famous glass igloos and "Santa's Home," among other amenities.

The Dog Bark Park Inn

The Dog Bark Park Inn aims to make "sleeping in the doghouse a good thing," according to its website. This quaint bed and breakfast based in Cottonwood, Idaho, is actually in the shape of a dog. In addition to its list of amenities, guests are allowed to bring their furry friends provided that arrangements are made ahead of arrival.

Marina Bay Sands Hotel

Marina Bay Sands, which is a 5-star hotel, is one of the most expensive resorts worldwide. Based in Singapore, the hotel with more than 2,500 rooms boasts an assortment of amenities and attractions. Guests can enjoy the resort's casino, shops, museum, restaurants and infinity pool, among other features.
