The Big Bang Theory
Sheldon (Jim Parsons, center) tells Raj (Kunal Nayyar, right) and Howard (Simon Helberg, left) that he is ready to date again in episode 8 of "The Big Bang Theory" Season 9. CBS

It is time for Sheldon (Jim Parsons) to move on! Well, fans of "The Big Bang Theory" Season 9 and "Shamy" shippers might not agree with that, but with Amy (Mayim Bialik) eyeing up her third date with Dave (guest star Stephen Merchant) can you blame the guy for putting himself back out there? A sneak peek video from episode 8, "The Mystery Date Observation," Sheldon does just that, but he does have some harsh parting words to say about his ex-girlfriend before he hits the dating scene.

According to the synopsis, Sheldon is taking episode 7's failed proposal as a sign to get back out on the dating scene. He even recruits Raj (Kunal Nayyar) and Howard (Simon Helberg) to find a new girlfriend for him, since they were responsible for getting Amy and him together. In a sneak peek video from the episode, Raj and Howard question if Sheldon is really ready to move on, but Sheldon is ready with the perfect metaphor.

"I think of my time with Amy as a stick of Fruit Stripe gum," says Sheldon, "sweet and enjoyable at first, but ultimately a flavorless lump of sadness."

Of course, the conversation then devolves into an argument about the best childhood gum.

Meanwhile, when Penny (Kaley Cuoco) and Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) learn that Amy is going out on a dinner date with Dave (guest star Stephen Merchant), the man Sheldon saw Amy kissing in episode 7, they decide to tag along and spy on their romantic evening. First, though, they help Amy pick out an outfit and another sneak peek video reveals that Amy is a little reluctant to show some skin.
