“The Blacklist” has been anything but boring since it returned for the second half of the NBC series’ Season 2. In just two episodes there have been multiple kidnappings, a drug induced trip down memory lane for Liz (Megan Boone), one dead guest star – Luther Braxton (Ron Perlman) -- and a few new revelations about the relationship between Liz and Red (James Spader). However, one question has not yet been addressed – when will Tom (Ryan Eggold) return?
Fans will remember that in the Season 2 midseason finale, the shocking ending revealed that Red and Tom knew each other and had some sort of hush-hush relationship behind Liz’s back. They spoke about the elusive Fulcrum, which has become a major plot point in the last two episodes, and agreed to maintain some unknown secret.
Well, it might not be long before viewers finally get some answers. Tom will reportedly return in an upcoming episode when a past mistake of Liz’s comes back to haunt the FBI agent. In the midseason finale, a worker at the dock where Liz was keeping Tom prisoner stumbled upon her hideout. After she showed her badge and talked the man into leaving the scene, he wandered back later in the episode and Tom killed him in the hope that it would force Liz to set him free before a search party came looking for the dead dockworker. Fans found out over the show’s break that someone would indeed come looking for the dead worker and when Liz’s name comes up in the investigation, she will be in hot water.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the investigation might just inspire Tom to come out of hiding to save his wife. It would be a welcome moment of redemption considering how much this relationship has soured over the show's two seasons. The tease, which came from executive producer John Eisendrath, did not specify which episode would feature the character's return.
What will happen when Tom returns? Fans will have to wait to find out! “The Blacklist” airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. EST on NBC.
