Following the death of Bobbi Kristina Brown, all eyes are turning to her former boyfriend Nick Gordon. Prior to the 22-year-old’s death, Gordon was already embroiled in an intense legal battle regarding his alleged involvement in the circumstances that lead to Brown's hospitalization.

Brown died Sunday, nearly six months after being found submerged and unresponsive in a bathtub Jan. 31. The daughter of former singing icon Whitney Houston was discovered by Gordon in their Roswell, Georgia, home and immediately taken to a hospital. She was diagnosed with irreversible brain damage and placed on life support. Since then, suspicious circumstances surrounding the case started casting an odd light on Gordon and the couple’s relationship.

Gordon, 25, started dating Bobbi Kristina in 2012, but was considered a member of the Houston family long before that -- ever since Whitney agreed to allow him to live with her and Bobbi Kristina from a young age. Houston accepted Gordon and raised him like a brother to Bobbi Kristina more than 13 years ago, after she determined that his birth mother could no longer take care of him, TMZ reported. Although the Gordon and Brown often referred to each other as husband and wife on social media, a lawyer for the Brown family confirmed that they were never legally wed.

As previously reported, the Brown family began to suspect foul play in Bobbi Kristina’s case when doctors reportedly discovered bruising on her body that didn’t match details of Gordon’s story. The aspiring actress also reportedly had a swollen mouth and was missing a tooth. That reportedly prompted Brown’s family to file a lawsuit on her behalf.

According to Us Weekly, the suit was filed by Brown's conservator Bedelia Hargrove on June 24, just hours after Brown was moved to hospice care. The suit claimed that not only was Gordon abusive, but he’d also manipulated his relationship with Bobbi Kristina’s finances so that he was in a position to withdraw funds. According to the suit, he did so to the tune of $11,000 after Brown was hospitalized. The suit also reportedly notes that Brown was planning to end her relationship with Gordon but, instead, simply ignited a brash argument with him on the day in question. Gordon reportedly was served court papers in connection with the lawsuit earlier this month.

According to People, the Roswell (Georgia) Police Department announced, shortly after the lawsuit was filed, that it was going to be investigating the case surrounding Bobbi Kristina Brown more thoroughly in the wake of new details.

“The Roswell Police Department has forwarded its investigative file to our office. In view of the new circumstances regarding the health status of Bobbi Kristina Brown, we will be reviewing the case with greater interest,” Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard Jr. told People. He added that the police investigation is completely separate from the family’s lawsuit.

Although no charges have been brought against Gordon, the family barred him from visiting his former girlfriend while she was in doctor’s care. In March, he checked himself into rehab for alcohol abuse, E! Online reported. When he eventually checked out of rehab, he began staying with family members in Florida, where he is awaiting whatever legal action might be brought on by either the lawsuit or the Roswell Police Department’s investigation.
