Boeing (NYSE: BA) completed one of the final tests in the FAA's certification process for its Dreamliner 787 model today by conducting a two-hour flight from its Everett, Wa, facility and back. The company will provide flight data to federal regulators, who will evaluate the performance of its new battery design.

"Once we deliver the materials, we stand ready to reply to additional requests and continue in dialog with the FAA to ensure we have met all of their expectations," the company said in a statement.

Boeing is working to return its 787 model to safe operation following two battery-fire incidents in January that forced the FAA to ground all 50 787 models operated by commercial carriers worldwide. Friday's test was conducted on a LOT Polish Airlines SA production plane that took off from Paine Field at 12:11 p.m. Pacific Time and returned 2 hours and 9 minutes later, at 2:20 p.m., providing real-time flight-tracking information.

"The purpose of the flight was to demonstrate that the new battery system performs as intended during normal and non-normal flight conditions," the company said in a statement.
