BP Plc had about $20 million worth of diesel fuel stolen at its distribution plant on a Harbor Island distribution center in Seattle, according to police.

The theft lasted from nine to ten months, a police report stated, according to Bloomberg.

Officials with BP PLC said about 350,000 gallons valued at about $1 million were stolen with a fake meter, according to the Seattle Intelligencer.

Bill Kid, a spokesman for the company said the company lost about $1.2 million, according to Bloomberg. He said he didn’t know why there was a discrepancy in the reported value of the loss.

Seattle police say someone installed a fake meter. The thefts stopped when it was discovered and replaced Dec. 5, according to police, the Seattle Intelligencer reported.
